Lesotho Institutions Sports Association was established in 1975 by high schools and institutions of higher learning like Agric College, Lerotholi Polytechnic, Leloaleng etc, but in the mid 1980’s the tertiary institutions established their own association called LUCSA. LISA managed to secure its first sponsorship from Maluti Mountain Brewery in 1978.
LISA became one of the founding members of COSSASA [Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa] in 2000, which its main objective is to unearth and develop talent at grassroot level in Southern Africa.
In individual sport like COSSASA Athletics we had several athletes that obtained Gold in different events over the years, like LETLALA LEKHOTSO who obtained Gold in 100M in 2013 in Harare Zimbabwe, and therefore set a new COSSASA Record in 100M. As for team sport we first obtained Gold with Football in 2012 in Windhoek Namibia, secondly we got Gold in Ladies Football in 2013, thirdly we earned Gold again in football in Bulawayo Zimbabwe in 2015. The serious challenge that we have is failure to compete with more team sports and individual sports as compared to our counterparts in the region, therefore our delegation is always far too small to compete in other events, which could be the correct platform to gauge our actual performance as compared to other countries with bigger delegations and more team sports and individual sport athletes.
